Tripoli, August 12 (QNA) - The General Electricity Company of Libya said on Wednesday that an attack on the South Zawiya substation caused a complete power outage across large areas of southern Zawiya city.
In a statement posted on Facebook, the company explained that the 30/11 kV substation south of Zawiya was targeted, causing it to catch fire completely and go out of service, which resulted in the loss of electricity supply to large areas south of the city.

The company warned of the dangers posed by continued attacks on electricity-grid facilities and components, and the potential direct consequences for the stability of the national grid. It noted that the loss of additional substations, transmission lines, and other power infrastructure could cause widespread disruptions, potentially leading to a partial or complete shutdown of the electricity grid.

It added that the attacks and security disturbances that Zawiya has experienced in recent times had a direct impact on the electricity sector, causing severe damage to a number of grid facilities and components.
The company stressed that it would not be responsible for any consequences or damage to the grid, or for any impact on the continuity of electricity supplies, resulting from continued attacks on its facilities or from the inability to carry out maintenance and operational work in a safe environment.

Meanwhile, Libya’s National Oil Corporation said on Tuesday that emergency and safety teams had managed to bring under control all the fires that broke out in several fuel tanks at the Zawiya Oil Complex earlier than expected, following attacks carried out by explosive-laden drones. (QNA)
