IMO Council Approves Qatar's Hosting of World Maritime Day 2028
London, July 07 (QNA) - During its 137th regular meeting, the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) approved the State of Qatar's hosting of the World Maritime Day 2028 event.
Marking the occasion, HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the IMO Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani thanked the member states for their confidence and support for the State of Qatar's request.
His Excellency emphasized the State of Qatar's keenness to organize a distinguished event that contributes to supporting the goals of the IMO and enhancing international cooperation and the exchange of experiences in the maritime sector, welcoming the participation of member states and relevant parties in this international event.
World Maritime Day is an international platform held annually by the IMO in cooperation with the host country. It brings together government officials, maritime sector leaders, and representatives of international organizations, academic institutions, and the private sector to discuss issues, challenges, and future opportunities facing the global maritime sector.
World Maritime Day events include dialogue sessions and specialized presentations highlighting the priorities of the IMO and emerging issues, contributing to strengthening international cooperation, exchanging experiences and supporting efforts aimed at developing the maritime transport sector and achieving maritime sustainability.
Qatar's hosting of this event stems from its commitment to supporting the activities of the IMO and promoting international cooperation in the maritime field, in line with the country's efforts to support the development of the maritime sector and promote sustainability and innovation in the field of maritime transport.
