Doha, July 05 (QNA) - Al Wakrah Sports Club has renewed its contract with Chilean coach Jose Luis Sierra as head coach of the first football team for one season, 2026/2027.

Sierra led Al Wakrah just three months before the end of the season, following the departure of former coach Vicente Moreno.

Sierra has delivered strong results with Al Wakrah during his tenure, leading them to an eighth-place finish in the previous Qatar Stars League season with 27 points, earned from seven wins and six draws.

The 57-year-old Sierra began his coaching career in 2010 when he managed Chilean side Union Espanola.

The Chilean coach embarked on his first experience in the Gulf region, taking charge of Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad for two seasons from 2016 to 2018, winning both the Crown Prince Cup and the King's Cup.

Sierra trained Shabab Al Ahli of the UAE for a season, before returning to Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia for another season. He was subsequently appointed manager of Chilean side Palestino for the 2020-2021 season.

In his last coaching stint before joining Al Wakrah, Sierra managed Al Tai of Saudi Arabia for the 2021-2022 season, before taking charge of fellow Saudi club Al Wehda from 2022 to 2025. (QNA)
