Rome, July 29 (QNA) - The persistent Israeli armed aggression and the unilateral measures that include settlement, land annexation, and blunting the two-state solution undermine peace opportunities and imperil security and stability in the entire region, the Arab League has said.
The League indicated that the ongoing conditions trigger the international community to transition from the crisis management phase into ending it, reemphasizing that offering combined political, economic, and security assurances would literally strengthen the success of the two-state solution and its sustainability.
This came in the remarks of Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector at the League, Ambassador Faed Mustafa, during the co-chairmanship of the League and the European Union of the 8th Working Group on Peace Day Effort, as part of the two-day 10th meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution in Rome, Italy.
Mustafa emphasized that achieving just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East is a global responsibility that requires a tangible and realistic will to be further turned into pragmatic measures that ensure the success and perpetuation of the two-state solution.
Peace can't be achieved once a political accord is reached, Mustafa underlined, stating that it requires a true international will to be translated into practical commitments and concrete measures that address the root causes of the conflict.
These commitments, he said, would provide the Palestinian people with a clear political prospect that terminates the occupation and embodies their independent state along the June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Mustafa further remarked that pulling off the Peace Day efforts requires wider global rallying support for a package of incentives and assurances that keep up with the peace accord implementation.
This, he said, includes economic support, reconstruction, and boosting regional cooperation, in addition to providing the essential political and security assurances to make peace an enduring and meaningful option for all parties.
In addition, Mustafa hailed the current progressive collaboration between the League and the EU in co-chairing this event, asserting that this partnership underscores a shared conviction that achieving just and enduring peace requires coordinated collective action, as well as an international political will that ideally suits the magnitude of the challenges playing out in the region.
