Riyadh, July 23 (QNA) - The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and Jordan jointly condemned the Iranian aggression against their territories, reaffirming a unified position based on resolutions adopted by the GCC Ministerial Council, the Council of Foreign Ministers of the League of Arab States, international law, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).

In a joint statement, the seven countries said Iranian attacks on their territories, citizens, and civilian infrastructure have continued since Feb. 28, 2026, including after the signing of the US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding on Jun. 17, 2026. They said the attacks have intensified against Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, targeting energy facilities, desalination plants, ports, airports, and other civilian infrastructure.

The statement said the attacks constitute violations of the UN Charter, international law, international humanitarian law, Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), and the commitments Iran undertook under the Memorandum of Understanding, adding that they pose a threat to international peace and security.

The seven countries reaffirmed their inherent right to individual and collective self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and their right to take all necessary legal measures to protect their sovereignty, territory, citizens, commercial vessels, and critical infrastructure against continued attacks.

They also welcomed the Iraqi Prime Minister's decision to restrict the possession of weapons to the state by Sep. 30, 2026, expressing support for the measures taken by the Iraqi government to prevent Iranian-backed factions, militias, and armed groups from carrying out further attacks against countries in the region.

The statement called on the UN Security Council to adopt an urgent resolution demanding an immediate end to the Iranian attacks, recognize the right of affected states to self-defense, and consider further measures should the attacks continue.

The seven countries also praised the readiness and professionalism of their armed forces in protecting their sovereignty, security, stability, and civilian population. They further commended the resilience and unity shown by their citizens in the face of the attacks.

The statement reaffirmed the countries' commitment to ensuring freedom and safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab El Mandeb Strait, preserving regional security and stability, and working with regional countries and the International Maritime Organization to establish permanent arrangements consistent with international law, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, respect for state sovereignty, and the principles of good neighborliness.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the countries' full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for the measures it is taking to safeguard its sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity.

It also expressed appreciation for the diplomatic efforts led by Saudi Arabia and Oman to reach a comprehensive and lasting political solution to the crisis in Yemen, as well as for Saudi Arabia's humanitarian and development assistance to Yemen. (QNA)
