Cairo, July 22 (QNA) - Egypt hailed Wednesday the decision by the governments of the Netherlands and Belgium to ban trade in goods originating from Israeli settlements established in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.
In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the move is the epitome of support for justice, materializing a practical and responsible action in line with the principles of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.
The statement remarked that this includes Security Council Resolution 2334, which underlines the illegitimacy of settlements and demands their immediate cessation to safeguard the opportunities for peace and the two-state solution.
As such, the ministry urged all EU countries and the international community to pursue similar steps to ban settlement products in alignment with the decision of these two nations.
The statement further stressed that achieving security and peace in the Middle East hinges on ending the occupation, enabling the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights, primarily the right to self-determination and to establish their independent and sovereign state along the Jun. 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
