Washington, July 19 (QNA) - Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun met in Washington today with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two countries and efforts to achieve stability in Lebanon.

During the meeting, Aoun stressed the need for Lebanon's position to align with Washington's regarding the implementation of the trilateral framework agreement by achieving the first Israeli withdrawal from the initial pilot area.

The Lebanese President also called for strengthening the United States support for the Lebanese Army and security institutions and taking steps to reinforce American engagement with Lebanon in economic and investment sectors, particularly energy, telecommunications, and transportation.

The US State Secretary said his country supports the Lebanese President's positions and the steps he has taken to restore the Lebanese state's sovereignty over all its territory.

Rubio reaffirmed the United States' commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the trilateral framework agreement and to advancing the Lebanese government's efforts to promote stability, achieve economic recovery, and build a better future for the Lebanese people. (QNA)
