Egypt, Saudi Arabia Reemphasize Imperative of Immediate Halt to Regional Escalation, Maintaining Shipping Traffic Through Hormuz
Cairo, July 13 (QNA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah spoke by phone on Monday to discuss the importance of the immediate cessation of all escalatory acts that would metastasize into a wider regional conflict.
In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two ministers reiterated their condemnation of the repeated Iranian attacks on a number of Arab countries, including the Gulf nations and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Both ministers stressed that such assaults amount to a flagrant violation of the nations' sovereignty and a grave threat to the security and stability of the region.
The conversation stressed the imperative of safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz based on the international rules-based order, ensuring the security of international traffic and never hampering vessel movement.
They likewise concurred that any attempts to impose restrictions on traversing international waterways would be a non-starter, given the steep consequences for the global economy and energy security.
In addition, the two sides shared perspectives on ongoing regional de-escalation efforts, along with the role of the regional quartet comprising Egypt, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Pakistan, as an important platform for consultation, coordination, and support for efforts aimed at containing tensions and strengthening security and stability in the region.
The talks further addressed a variety of other regional issues, including the evolving situation in Sudan, Libya, and the Red Sea, with the two ministers emphasizing the importance of moving ahead with close coordination and consultation between Egypt and Saudi Arabia on wide-ranging regional issues of shared concern, thereby helping support regional security and stability.
