World Leaders Offer Condolences to Qatar Over the Death of the Father Amir

Doha, July 12 (QNA) - The Arab and Islamic worlds received the news of the passing of the State of Qatar's great statesman, HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, with profound sadness.

Widely recognized for his dedication to Arab and Islamic causes, HH the late Father Amir devoted his time, effort, and intellect to serving these causes, rendering enduring contributions to his country, as well as to the Arab and Islamic worlds, and providing support to the vulnerable and the needy with steadfast solidarity.

Upon the Amiri Diwan announcing the passing of the nation's revered leader at the age of 74 on Sunday morning, July 12, 2026, corresponding to Muharram 27, 1448 AH, world leaders expressed their sincere condolences to the State of Qatar's leadership and people via diplomatic cables, posts on X, and telephone calls.

They paid tribute to HH the Father Amir's lifetime of service and historic achievements, which elevated Qatar to the ranks of developed nations and advanced Arab and Islamic causes.

In this context, HH President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan conveyed his deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and to the Qatari people on the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

HH the President of the UAE prayed that Allah would grant HH the Father Amir boundless mercy and admission into Paradise, and grant his family and the people of Qatar patience and comfort.

For his part, HE President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El Sisi extended his heartfelt condolences to the State of Qatar: its Amir, government, and people, on the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, praying that Allah grants His Highness mercy and continues to bless Qatar and its people with security and stability.

HM King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan expressed his deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and to the Qatari people on the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

His Majesty prayed that Almighty Allah would shower HH the Father Amir with mercy and protect the State of Qatar and its people.

For his part, HE President of the Republic of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he had received the news of the passing of his dear friend, HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani with profound sorrow.

In a post on X, President Erdogan prayed to Almighty Allah to grant HH the Father Amir boundless mercy.

HE the President of the Republic of Turkiye highlighted that he had the honor of working closely with His Highness on many international issues during His Excellency's tenure as Prime Minister.

HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani played a prominent role in boosting Turkish-Qatari political, commercial, military, humanitarian, and cultural relations to their current levels, President Erdogan said, noting that HH the Father Amir's sincere efforts for peace in the Islamic world, stability in the region, and the prosperity of the Qatari people will always be remembered.

HE the President of the Republic of Turkiye extended his sincere condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HH the Father Amir's family, the brotherly Qatari people, and to the entire Islamic world, on behalf of himself, his family, and the Turkish people.

In turn, HE President of the Syrian Arab Republic Ahmad Al Sharaa expressed his sincere condolences on the passing of the nation's great leader, HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

President Al Sharaa posted on X praying that Allah shows HH the Father Amir boundless mercy and forgiveness, admits him into Paradise, and grant his honorable family and the brotherly people of Qatar patience and solace.

HE Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of the Republic of the Sudan Gen. Abdel Fattah Al Burhan conveyed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the State of Qatar: its leadership, government, and people, on the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

His Excellency prayed that Allah would grant His Highness boundless mercy, admit him into Paradise, and bestow patience and comfort upon his family and the people of Qatar.

HE President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari expressed his profound sorrow over the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

His Excellency extended his sincere condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani as well as to the Government and people of Qatar during this time of grief.

President Zardari praised HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani's leadership, vision, and invaluable contributions to the State of Qatar's progress and development, as well as his role in promoting regional peace and cooperation.

His Excellency prayed that Allah would grant HH the Father Amir the highest ranks in Paradise and bestow strength and patience upon the family of His Highness and the grieving people of Qatar in bearing this great loss.

For his part, HE President of the Republic of Lebanon Joseph Aoun expressed his sorrow at the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, emphasizing that his passing represents a great loss for Qatar, Lebanon, and the Arab world.

"Lebanon, its president and people, remember with great appreciation and loyalty the sincere fraternal positions expressed by the late Amir toward Lebanon, particularly during the Israeli aggression in July 2006. At that time, Qatar, under his leadership, stood by Lebanon during one of its darkest periods and contributed to easing the suffering of its people," President Aoun added.

The President of the Republic of Lebanon pointed out that Lebanon highly values HH the Father Amir's initiative to rebuilding Lebanese villages and towns damaged by the war, a step that reflected the depth of Arab solidarity and a sense of responsibility, leaving a lasting impact on the hearts of the Lebanese people.

HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani was a true friend of Lebanon, His Excellency said, adding that His Highness played an active role in bringing the Lebanese parties closer together and launched initiatives that had a profound impact on the course of national reconciliation, foremost among them his sponsorship of the Doha Conference in 2008, which brought a critical chapter in Lebanon's modern history to a close and restored political life to its constitutional institutions and security throughout the country.

HE President Aoun also extended his deepest condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who continues his late father's legacy of supporting Lebanon and launching commendable political and humanitarian initiatives aimed at achieving security and stability in Lebanon and ending the suffering of its people.

The President of the Republic of Lebanon further conveyed his condolences to the esteemed Al-Thani family and all who mourn HH the Father Amir, affirming Lebanon's full solidarity with Qatar during this painful loss.

His Excellency prayed that Almighty Allah would grant the departed leader infinite mercy and bestow patience and solace upon his family and loved ones. 

HH Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum extended his sincere condolences to his brother, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and to the Qatari people on the death of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

For his part, HE Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the esteemed Al-Thani family, and the government and people of Qatar on the death of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

Albudaiwi said the late Father Amir was one of the leaders who, with sincerity and wisdom, contributed to Qatar's renaissance and its comprehensive development across various fields. He also played a prominent role in supporting Gulf cooperation and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood, cohesion and integration among the GCC member states, driven by his firm belief in the importance of Gulf unity and in consolidating the foundations of security, stability and prosperity across the bloc. He prayed that Allah grant the deceased His vast mercy and forgiveness, admit him to paradise, and grant HH the Amir, the esteemed Al-Thani family, and the people of Qatar patience, peace and solace.

HE Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity of the State of Libya Abdul Hamid Mohammed Dbeibeh also mourned with profound sorrow the passing of the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

He extended his sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and to the State of Qatar and its brotherly people on the death of the late leader, praying that Allah grant him abundant mercy and inspire his family and the people of Qatar with patience and solace.

HE Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi, also expressed deep sorrow over the death of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

His Excellency said HH the late Father Amir was a visionary leader who guided Qatar to high levels of development and prosperity, adding, "We remember him also as a true friend whom I had the honour of meeting during my last visit to Qatar in February 2024."

"I convey my sincere condolences to HH the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and the entire royal family and people of Qatar," he added.

HE Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim also extended his deepest condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the ruling family and the Qatari people on the death of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

"During his 18 years as Amir, Sheikh Hamad transformed Qatar into a nation of global significance. Under his leadership, Qatar achieved remarkable economic progress and emerged as an influential voice in regional and international affairs," he said.

"The Father Amir was a steadfast friend of Malaysia and a respected figure across the Muslim world. May Allah SWT bless his soul and grant strength and comfort to the Royal Family and people of Qatar in this time of grief." 

HM King Charles III of the United Kingdom and HM Queen Camilla expressed profound sorrow over the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, paying tribute to his many years of distinguished leadership and dedication to the State of Qatar. They said his vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of the Qatari people had earned widespread respect both within Qatar and internationally.

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy extended his sincere condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Al-Thani family, and the Government and people of the State of Qatar on the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

He shared Qatar's grief over the loss, recalling with deep appreciation the late Father Amir's historic contributions to Qatar's renaissance, his pivotal role in advancing joint Arab action, strengthening Arab solidarity, and serving Arab and Islamic causes. He also prayed to Allah Almighty to bestow His boundless mercy and forgiveness upon the late HH the Father Amir, admit him into His spacious Paradise, and reward him abundantly for his enduring contributions to his country and the Arab and Islamic nations.

HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II of Jordan likewise conveyed his heartfelt condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Al-Thani family, and the Government and people of Qatar. In a message posted on his official Instagram account, the Crown Prince expressed solidarity with Qatar in mourning the late Father Amir, extended his deepest sympathies to HH the Amir and the Qatari people, and prayed for mercy upon the deceased.

President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Nechirvan Barzani also extended his condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Al-Thani family, and the Government and people of Qatar. He described the late Father Amir as an outstanding leader whose vision and leadership had played a pivotal role in Qatar's development and in strengthening its regional and international standing. Barzani said the Father Amir's enduring contributions would continue to be remembered with deep respect and appreciation, reaffirmed his solidarity with Qatar during this period of mourning, and prayed to Allah Almighty to bestow His mercy upon the deceased and grant patience and solace to all.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his condolences to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and the people of Qatar on the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

In a post on his official X account, Guterres said he was deeply saddened by the news of the Father Amir's passing and described him as a visionary leader and a transformative figure who had profoundly shaped the future of his nation and its people

Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi also extended his sincere condolences to the State of Qatar, paying tribute to the late Father Amir's enduring legacy in advancing Qatar's comprehensive development and modernization. He highlighted the late Father Amir's significant contributions to advancing joint Arab action and championing Arab causes. He said the Father Amir had left behind a distinguished political and developmental legacy at the Gulf, Arab, and international levels. Al Yamahi also reaffirmed the Arab Parliament's full solidarity with the State of Qatar during this time of mourning and prayed for the country's continued security, stability, and prosperity.

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa expressed profound sorrow over the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, describing him as a visionary leader and the architect of modern Qatar.

He praised the late Father Amir's enduring legacy, particularly his decisive role in transforming Qatar and elevating its position as a leading global sports destination.

Sheikh Salman said the Father Amir's deep passion for football and sport had driven Qatar's remarkable rise on the international sporting stage. Under his leadership, Qatar secured the right to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, becoming the first Arab nation to stage the tournament.

He also highlighted the Father Amir's long-term vision in positioning Qatar at the heart of international sport through the successful hosting of major multi-sport events and continental championships, including the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006 and the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011

He added that the Father Amir's exceptional contribution to football and his lasting legacy across the sporting world would continue to be honored and remembered by the global sports community. (MORE)
