Doha, June 08 (QNA) - Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Qatar University (QU) have signed a new agreement establishing a Joint Research Funding Initiative.
The agreement aims at strengthening collaboration between the two institutions and supporting research that addresses national health priorities.
The new funding initiative is designed to support collaborative research projects that align with the strategic priorities of both organizations and contribute to Qatar’s broader research and healthcare objectives. The initiative will also complement existing internal research funding programs within both institutions.
Commenting on the agreement, Chief of Scientific, Academic, and Faculty Affairs HMC, Dr. Jassim Al Suwaidi, said: "This initiative represents an important step in further strengthening cooperation between Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar University. By supporting collaborative, institution-led research, we are creating new opportunities for clinicians, researchers and academics to work together on projects that address national health priorities and contribute to the advancement of healthcare in Qatar. Through this joint funding initiative, we aim to foster innovation, build research capacity and generate evidence that supports improved patient outcomes and informs future healthcare delivery".
On this occasion, Vice President for Research and Innovation at Qatar University, Professor Aiman Erbad, stated: "This agreement reflects the depth of the cooperation between Qatar University and Hamad Medical Corporation and underscores our shared commitment to advancing the research and innovation ecosystem in ways that address national health priorities.
The Joint Research Funding Initiative provides an important platform for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and academics, while facilitating the translation of scientific knowledge into practical solutions that enhance population health and improve the quality of healthcare services.
At Qatar University, we believe that building impactful research partnerships with leading national institutions is fundamental to achieving research excellence and maximizing the societal impact of research, in alignment with Qatar National Vision and the country's aspirations to build a knowledge-based economy".
آ  The new agreement will see the establishment of a joint HMC-QU committee to oversee the initiative and ensure that funded projects deliver meaningful impact.
The committee will be responsible for identifying and reviewing annual research priority areas, evaluating research proposals, selecting projects for funding, and monitoring the progress and outcomes of funded research. The agreement is expected to support more than three collaborative research projects annually.
The agreement further strengthens collaboration in developing Qatar’s healthcare workforce and research environment. HMC and QU have collaborated extensively to provide clinical education and training opportunities for students across medicine, pharmacy, health sciences and related disciplines.
Both institutions have also supported joint research projects, co-funded research initiatives, PhD research, faculty exchange programs and collaborative efforts to increase research capacity and scientific output.
Noteworthy, HMC and QU have collaborated extensively to provide clinical education and training opportunities for students in medicine, pharmacy, health sciences, and related disciplines.
