Geneva, June 29 (QNA) - Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that the Hantavirus outbreak is nearing its end.

In a post on X platform, Ghebreyesus said that all contacts of the two cases identified in South Africa had completed their monitoring period, with no additional cases reported.

“Quarantine and follow-up periods have also been completed for everyone in Spain and the Netherlands, including the MV Hondius crew members”, he added.

He confirmed that the total number of cases remains at 13, including three fatalities. The situation remains stable, and the outbreak is nearing its end, he added.

Hantavirus is a rare but serious virus that can cause severe illness in humans, and is known to be directly associated with rodents such as mice and rats. (QNA)
