Washington, June 27 (QNA) - Egypt booked their place in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after holding Iran to a 1-1 draw in their final Group G match at Seattle Stadium on Friday.
Mahmoud Saber gave Egypt an early lead in the fifth minute, but Ramin Rezaeian equalized for Iran nine minutes later as the two sides shared the points.
The result lifted Egypt to five points, securing second place in Group G behind leaders Belgium and a place in the knockout stage, while Iran exited the tournament.
Egypt will face Australia, runners-up in Group D, in the Round of 32.
Egypt had already secured qualification before kickoff after Cape Verde's goalless draw with Saudi Arabia and Spain's 1-0 victory over Uruguay in Group H guaranteed their progression to the knockout stage regardless of the outcome against Iran. (QNA)
