Oman, Iran Reaffirm Commitment to Safe Transit Through Strait of Hormuz
Muscat, June 23 (QNA) - Oman and Iran underscored on Tuesday their commitment to ensuring the safe transit through the Strait of Hormuz, consistently with the relevant international provisions.
In a joint statement following the visit of Iranian Consultative Assembly Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Oman, both sides agreed to continue the conversation on this matter through a joint working team between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
The primary objective is to reach an agreement on the future management of traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, along with the services provided in this regard and the associated costs, in accordance with international standards.
In addition, the two sides concurred on holding discussions with littoral nations in the region and with any relevant parties, reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding the Strait of Hormuz as a secure and open waterway for international navigation.
They likewise stressed the importance of constant cooperation to strengthen maritime safety, freedom of navigation, and regional stability, as well as full respect for all arrangements pertaining to the Strait of Hormuz, in a manner that fully upholds the sovereignty of the two littoral states and their sovereign rights.
As such, Oman emphasized that it backs the memorandum of understanding "Islamabad" signed between the United States and Iran, along with the importance of continuing dialogue and coordination to ensure its successful implementation. (QNA)
