US Vice-President Affirms Progress in Talks with Iran, Commends Qatar and Pakistan Role
Burgenstock (Switzerland), June 22 (QNA) - US Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed progress in the ongoing talks with Iran, commending the role played by Qatar and Pakistan in supporting the technical negotiations between the United States and Iran.
In his remarks following talks in Switzerland, he said that the Burgenstock meetings had made significant progress on the issues discussed. He added that the meetings had succeeded in reaching a coordination mechanism to ensure the continued smooth flow of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, including addressing any challenges that might impede navigation and preventing them from escalating, which contributed to the resumption of oil and LNG shipments through the strait.
He noted that the meetings also established a regional coordination mechanism aimed at supporting the consolidation of the ceasefire and dealing with any security developments that the region may witness, in order to contribute to containing tensions and enhancing security and stability.
The US Vice President pointed out that Iran had agreed to invite inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to return, describing this step as an important advance in the course of negotiations related to the Iranian nuclear program.
He stressed that what was achieved in the Burgenstock meetings represents the basis on which the final agreement will be built, indicating that the participants were able to put in place the necessary political and technical framework to complete the negotiations in the coming days and weeks. (QNA)
