Khartoum, June 22 (QNA) - The United Nations has confirmed that Sudan remains the world's largest displacement crisis, noting that at least 4.5 million Sudanese have sought refuge in other countries.
UNHCR Representative in Sudan, Marie-Helene Verney stated that three years after the outbreak of war, approximately 9 million Sudanese remain internally displaced.
Verney reported that the Sudanese army's recapture of Khartoum, Gezira, and Sennar states, and the cessation of fighting in these areas, has led to the return of approximately 4.5 million people to their homes, including about 1.8 million who have arrived in Khartoum State.
Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been experiencing an armed conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions of people both within and outside the country, according to estimates by international organizations.
