Washington, June 02 (QNA) - Apple has officially released an emergency update called iOS 26.5.1 to address a technical issue that caused wired charging of some iPhones to malfunction when the battery level dropped to very low levels.
The company explained that the defect leads to the system failing to recognize the charging cable when the battery reaches very low levels, noting that the update targets exclusively all models of the iPhone 17 series, in addition to the new iPhone Air. The update size ranges between 12 and 17 GB depending on the device model.
Apple confirmed that the large size of the update is due to fundamental modifications to the low-level system software (Firmware) responsible for managing power and controlling the connection ports within the electronic chip, with the aim of radically addressing the problem while maintaining battery efficiency and stable performance in the long term.
This rapid overhaul comes just days before the launch of the WWDC 2026 annual developer conference, which is expected to announce iOS 27.
The company advised users of affected devices to install the update as soon as possible by going to Settings, General, Software Update, in order to ensure that the device continues to work and avoid any problems related to charging or power outages. (QNA)
