Cairo, June 18 (QNA) - Egyptian political analysts, experts, and diplomats have affirmed the pivotal role played by the State of Qatar, together with Egypt, Pakistan, and several regional and international parties, in reaching an agreement between the United States and Iran.

This marks an important step toward reducing tensions in the Middle East and enhancing regional and international security and stability, thereby opening the door to broader understandings that contribute to protecting the global economy and energy supply chains.

The Egyptian analysts and experts unanimously stated, in remarks to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), that the success of these efforts in bridging the gap between the two sides came in light of the State of Qatar's accumulated expertise in international mediation and its balanced relations with various parties, in addition to the active role of a number of regional countries, including Egypt and Pakistan, in reaching this agreement.

They described it as an important victory for diplomacy and dialogue over escalation and confrontation, paving the way for a comprehensive and sustainable settlement of outstanding issues.

In this context, former Assistant Egyptian Foreign Minister Ambassador Yasser Osman told QNA that the efforts of the mediators, particularly Qatar, Egypt, and Pakistan, succeeded in narrowing the gap between the conflicting parties and reaching compromise solutions that contributed to achieving this agreement, which represents a major achievement for the region, its countries, and the world, in restoring calm and security after a war that threatened regional and international stability.

Osman explained that the State of Qatar, in this context, employed its long experience in conflict resolution and mediation, along with its balanced network of relations with various parties and the trust it enjoys at the regional and international levels, which supported mediation efforts and contributed to reaching this important stage.

He noted that the efforts of mediators, especially Pakistan, Egypt, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will continue to be required and will be heavily relied upon to ensure the durability of the agreement and build upon it toward a more comprehensive settlement that guarantees security and stability in the region.

He added that the agreement lays an important foundation for reaching a comprehensive settlement that ensures long-term peace in the region and maintains the sustainability of energy supply flows to the world, in addition to emphasizing the importance of adopting dialogue and diplomatic means in addressing disputes and resolving conflicts.

For his part, Professor of Political Science at Cairo University Dr. Hassan Salama said Qatari efforts played a pivotal and influential role in reaching the recent memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, as Qatari diplomacy succeeded in employing its accumulated negotiating expertise to build bridges of trust between two sides that lack a significant degree of mutual confidence.

Salama explained to QNA that the State of Qatar has accumulated extensive experience in international mediation and conflict resolution over recent years through its roles in several complex regional and international files, which has given it a strong ability to bring viewpoints closer and formulate practical, implementable solutions.

He noted that the Qatari role clearly emerged during the final phase of communications through intensive diplomatic moves by Doha, which helped narrow differences and bridge gaps.

He pointed out that Qatari mediation was not limited to transmitting messages and proposals between different parties, but also extended to providing practical ideas and solutions, benefiting from the State of Qatar's political standing, economic capabilities, and balanced relations with all parties.

This helped advance the understanding process despite the challenges and obstacles.

He noted that Qatari negotiators showed a great deal of perseverance and flexibility in dealing with the field and political developments that threatened to return matters to square one, and that these efforts ultimately resulted in the formulation of a joint memorandum of understanding between the American and Iranian sides.

Salama added that one of the most notable successes achieved through Qatari mediation was the ability to reach a unified draft of the memorandum of understanding, despite the existence of two differing visions between Washington and Tehran, considering that arriving at a text that both sides can adopt represents a diplomatic achievement credited to Qatari diplomacy and the various institutions that participated in mediation efforts.

He also underscored that the Egyptian role was present as Cairo had early anticipated the risks of an outbreak of confrontation between the United States and Iran, warning of its implications for the security and stability of the region.

Egyptian efforts have not stopped since the beginning of the crisis, he said, but have continued as part of a firm strategic commitment to supporting political and diplomatic solutions and resolving regional conflicts.

Egypt intensified its contacts and movements in coordination with several influential regional powers, foremost among them the State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye, with the aim of supporting de-escalation efforts and bringing viewpoints closer between the different parties.

In his statements to QNA, former Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister Ambassador Rakha Ahmed Hassan said the US–Iran understanding marks a return to normal international relations based on dialogue and mutual understanding, praising the role of the State of Qatar alongside Egypt, Turkiye, Oman, and Pakistan in narrowing differences and facilitating negotiations.

He said Qatari diplomacy played a key role in creating the right environment for successful talks, leveraging its balanced relations with regional and international actors, which made it an effective mediator.

He stressed that continued tensions would not serve any party and would instead threaten regional and global stability.

Hassan also noted that the Gulf and Middle East region is a vital hub for the global economy, producing a significant share of the world's oil and gas and serving as a major center for investment and trade. Any military escalation, he warned, would have severe global economic consequences.

Strategic expert Dr. Samir Farag similarly told QNA that Qatar's mediation, alongside Egypt and other regional and international actors, was central to preparing the ground for dialogue and reaching the agreement.

He highlighted Qatar's role in bridging gaps between Washington and Tehran throughout various stages of negotiations.

He explained that a mediator's role is not to impose solutions but to facilitate communication and bring viewpoints closer together, a task Qatar has successfully carried out due to its balanced relationships with all sides and its deep understanding of regional sensitivities.

Farag added that Qatar has maintained open channels with all parties, including Iran and the United States, using these ties to support de-escalation efforts.

He noted that this agreement reflects Qatar's broader diplomatic track record in resolving complex regional issues, including its efforts on the Palestinian file and other regional mediations.

He concluded that Qatar's moderate and balanced approach has strengthened its credibility as a trusted mediator, helping to build the trust necessary for this agreement, which contributes to regional stability and helps avoid serious disruptions to global energy and trade flows. (QNA)
