Doha, June 10 (QNA) - Director for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Abdullah Jefri commended Qatar's experience in agricultural investment and supporting food security, stressing that it represents a successful model at the national and regional levels, and has contributed to enhancing the country's ability to face the challenges related to supply chains and food security.
The Director for the GCC countries at the IFC told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the IFC, as a member of the World Bank Group, has collaborated with the US-Qatar Business Council (USQBC) to leverage global expertise in investing in emerging economies and to build upon Qatar's successes in this area.
He added that this cooperation resulted in the preparation of a report that includes a set of practical recommendations and investment opportunities that would enhance the growth of the agricultural sector and increase the contribution of the private sector to achieving food security.
He noted that the recommendations contained in the report "Building Resilient Food Systems - a roadmap for qatar's agri-food investments via cross-border investments in emerging and developing markets," which was launched Wednesday, are based on three main pillars: supporting the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, enhancing food security in Qatar and the world, and achieving development goals that contribute to supporting the economies receiving agricultural investments and promoting sustainable economic development.
Abdullah Jefri indicated that the report included a number of strategic recommendations, especially the establishment of a Qatari center for agricultural research, and the development of a framework for Gulf cooperation in the field of agricultural investment and food security. He stressed that the recent global challenges and crises demonstrated the urgent need to expand the scope of investments in this vital sector and enhance regional coordination to ensure the sustainability of food supplies.
He emphasized the significance of the report because of the wealth of information, analysis and recommendations it contains that will support decision-makers and investors in developing the food security system and enhancing agricultural investments in Qatar and the region. (QNA)
