Washington Reveals Efforts to Facilitate Talks Between Lebanon, Israel
Washington, May 08 (QNA) - The United States announced today that it will facilitate two days of talks between the governments of Lebanon and Israel.
The US State Department said in a statement that it will work on May 14 and 15 to facilitate what it described as "intensive" talks between the two governments.
In the same context, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed the commitment to solidifying the ceasefire before the next round of negotiations with Israel. He added that his country will propose a halt to Israeli attacks, the release of prisoners, and a timetable for withdrawal that would allow for the return of displaced persons and reconstruction.
He also stressed his government's commitment to maintaining the state's monopoly on the use of force, in accordance with Lebanese government decisions. He indicated that the prospects for negotiations, according to the government's vision, lead to ending the conflict between Lebanon and Israel.
Washington had previously brokered a ten-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel. It was later extended for three weeks. (QNA)
