Washington, May 08 (QNA) - US President Donald Trump said he will give the European Union until Jul. 4 to comply with their trade agreement before the United States raises tariffs.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had held a phone call with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, during which he stressed that he had waited patiently for the European Union to honor its commitments under the historic trade agreement concluded between the United States and the EU in Scotland, describing it as the largest trade agreement ever.
Trump added that the European Union had promised to fulfill its obligations under the agreement and reduce its tariffs to zero in accordance with the deal. He said he had agreed to grant the bloc additional time until the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, warning that otherwise tariffs imposed on the EU would immediately rise to much higher levels. 

Last Friday, Trump threatened to increase tariffs on European Union cars and trucks from the current 15% to 25% this week, citing the bloc’s failure to comply with the terms of the agreement signed in Scotland last July. (QNA)
