Washington, May 06 (QNA) - Apple plans to give users more freedom in choosing the artificial intelligence (AI) service within its system, and the iOS 27 update will support setting third-party services like Anthropic's Claude or Google's Gemini as the default instead of ChatGPT within its Apple Intelligence AI ecosystem, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

The decision also includes iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, allowing users to select their preferred AI service to use in tools such as auto-writing and image creation.

This move relies on a new feature called Extensions, which allows access to generative AI capabilities from installed applications on demand, whether through the Siri voice assistant, writing tools, or the Image Playground feature, which allows the user to move from a single, default model to an open system that supports multiple services.

These changes come as the partnership between Apple and Google continues, with Apple planning to incorporate Google's Gemini model into some Apple Intelligence and Siri functions.

Apple also continues to support OpenAI, which has already provided ChatGPT in the iOS 26 update as an alternative to its built-in services that have been lacking so far.

In a related context, Apple is testing the addition of voice differentiation within Siri to indicate the source of each response. The personal assistant Siri will use a specific voice, while responses from external models will appear in different voices. (QNA)
