Jordan Suffers Friendly Loss to Switzerland in World Cup Warm-Up
St. Gallen (Switzerland), May 31 (QNA) -The Jordanian national football team lost, 4-1, to its host, Switzerland, in a friendly match on Sunday, as both teams continue their preparations for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
The Swiss team scored its four goals through Breel Embolo, who converted a penalty kick in the 28th minute; Dan Ndoye in the 33rd minute; Granit Xhaka, who capitalized on a second penalty in the ninth minute of first-half stoppage time; and Christian Fassnacht in the 79th minute. Jordan's lone goal was scored by Odeh Al Fakhouri in the 52nd minute.
The match was Jordan's third friendly this year, following two games in March that both ended in 2-2 draws against Costa Rica and Nigeria.
The Jordanian team is scheduled to fly on Monday to the United States, where it will play a final friendly match against Colombia in San Diego on June 7. Jordan will then kick off its World Cup campaign on June 16 against Austria in Santa Clara, as part of Group J, which also includes Algeria and the reigning world champion, Argentina.
Switzerland will play its final warmup match against Australia, also in San Diego, on June 6, before opening its World Cup schedule against Qatar in Santa Clara on June 13. The Swiss are in Group B alongside Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Qatar. (QNA)
