Russia Says Future Dialogue with Europe Depends on EU Policy Shift
Moscow, May 26 (QNA) - Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that prospects for renewed contacts between Moscow and Europe depend on whether the European Union is willing to reconsider what it described as its "anti-Russian approach."
Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s department of European affairs Vladislav Maslennikovآ said Moscow had not rejected dialogue with Europe and had consistently supported resolving disputes with Western neighbors through diplomatic means.
Speaking to Russian media, Maslennikov said it was currently "difficult to speak about any genuine readiness in Brussels to resume meaningful dialogue" with Russia.
He added that discussions within the European Union so far appeared limited to debates over who could potentially represent the bloc in any future negotiations with Moscow.
"Europeans have not yet agreed on what exactly they would negotiate with Russia," he said, adding that it remained unclear whether such consensus could be reached.
Relations between Russia and the European Union have deteriorated sharply in recent years amid the conflict in Ukraine, sanctions imposed by Western countries, and broader geopolitical tensions. (QNA)
