Doha, May 20 (QNA) - Qatar Winter Sports Committee has announced a new community-focused winter sports program in Doha, aimed at encouraging wider public participation and strengthening cultural ties through sport.
The events, organized in collaboration with the Years of Culture initiative as part of the Qatar–Canada–Mexico 2026 cultural program, will take place at Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena from May 24 to 26.
The program will feature open activities in curling, ice hockey, skating and short-track speed skating, with sessions designed for all age groups. Members of the Canadian community in Doha are also expected to take part alongside local residents.
Organizers said the initiative is intended to promote cultural exchange, community engagement and long-term partnerships through sport.
The final day will include a friendly curling match bringing together residents, community groups and members of the Canadian expatriate community in an effort to encourage social interaction through shared sporting experiences.
The wider winter sports development program, launched last month and continuing through 2026, aims to expand participation in winter sports in Qatar, while also supporting youth development, coach training and competitive opportunities. (QNA)
