Qatar's 3x3 Women's Team Reaches GCC Games Doha 2026 Semi-Finals
Doha, May 12 (QNA) - Qatar women's national 3x3 basketball team qualified for the semi-finals of the women's 3x3 basketball competition at the fourth Gulf Games Doha 2026, which is being hosted in Doha until May 22, with the participation of 1,400 athletes representing six Gulf countries across 17 different sports.
The Qatari team secured qualification after delivering an impressive performance to top Group A with four points, following victories over Oman 15-10 in the opening round and Kuwait 14-13 in the second round. The group also saw Kuwait defeat Oman 13-12.
Qatar will face Saudi Arabia, runners-up of Group B, in the semi-finals tomorrow, while the second semi-final will feature Bahrain, winners of Group B, against Kuwait, runners-up of Group A. The winners will then meet in the final.
Group B saw Bahrain defeat United Arab Emirates 19-8 and Saudi Arabia 17-12, while Saudi Arabia beat the UAE 19-12.
The women's 3x3 basketball tournament features six teams divided into two groups. Group A includes Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman, while Group B consists of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE. The top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals.
In the men's 3x3 basketball competition, Qatar men's national 3x3 basketball team also secured a place in the semi-finals after topping the standings by winning all three of their opening matches played today.
The Qatari team displayed an outstanding technical and physical level, which was reflected in the results. They began their campaign with a dominant 22-9 win over the UAE, followed by a 21-15 victory against Bahrain, and concluded the day with a convincing 21-7 win over Kuwait.
In the remaining matches played today, Bahrain defeated Saudi Arabia 16-13 and Kuwait 21-10, while Saudi Arabia beat Kuwait 22-10. The UAE also defeated Saudi Arabia 15-13.
Qatar leads the standings with three wins, while Bahrain has two wins and one defeat. Saudi Arabia and the UAE each have one win and one loss, while Kuwait has suffered three defeats.
The group-stage matches will continue tomorrow with three games: Kuwait versus the UAE, Qatar versus Saudi Arabia, and the UAE versus Bahrain.
The men's 3x3 basketball competition features five teams: Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE. The tournament is being played in a single round-robin format, with the top four teams advancing to the semi-finals, where the first-placed team will face the fourth-placed team and the second-placed team will meet the third-placed team.
