Doha, May 12 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and the Republic of Turkiye have warned against the resumption of military operations in the region, saying such a development would carry serious consequences for both global security and the world economy.

The warning came during a joint press conference between HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye Hakan Fidan in Doha on Tuesday. Both sides reiterated their support for mediation efforts led by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan aimed at reaching a ceasefire agreement, ending the war in the region, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz to restore freedom of navigation.

HE Sheikh Mohammed said the current regional situation was "sensitive and critical," particularly amid the ongoing conflict with Iran and developments in the Strait of Hormuz, which he said had affected maritime navigation and had been used as leverage in the wider conflict.

He noted that discussions with the Turkish Foreign Minister had covered the wider regional impact of the crisis, including its economic repercussions for Gulf countries, as well as other regional files such as the escalation in Gaza, continued Israeli bombardment, forced displacement policies, and challenges in delivering humanitarian aid.

He also referred to continued Israeli strikes in Lebanon, including "repeated threats" against civilian areas, stressing the need for continued coordination between regional and friendly countries, particularly Turkiye.

His Excellency further said that the State of Qatar was continuing to coordinate with partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council and the wider region to pursue diplomatic solutions, including engagement with Iran, to restore regional stability.

On bilateral relations, he highlighted the strength of Qatar–Turkiye ties, describing them as a "strong partnership" developed over recent years under the leadership of both countries and covering political, economic, energy, and military cooperation.

For his part, HE Fidan said he had conveyed greetings from HE Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani during an earlier meeting, noting that they had exchanged views on regional developments.

He stressed that current conditions required greater coordination and solidarity among regional states, expressing Turkiye's full support for Pakistan's mediation efforts and readiness to help prevent a renewed escalation.

He warned that war not only destabilizes the region but also threatens global stability, pointing to the economic and energy security implications of any closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

He also highlighted ongoing developments in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank, saying continued conflict and displacement underscored the urgency of reaching political solutions.

Both sides reaffirmed that Qatar-Turkey relations continue to deepen across multiple sectors, driven by what they described as a shared commitment by their leaderships to strengthen strategic cooperation and deliver tangible results.

In response to journalists' questions, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and HE the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the State of Qatar and the Republic of Turkiye's support for Pakistani mediation and diplomatic efforts aimed at containing the escalation and ending the war in the region.

Warning of the consequences of the return to military operations whose effects would go beyond the region and extend to the entire world, the two sides stressed their rejection of the Strait of Hormuz being used as a negotiating chip, when in fact it is an international waterway whose freedom of navigation must be guaranteed.

In his response to a question, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the State of Qatar fully supports Pakistan's efforts to reach a political settlement to the war, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation, and addressing all issues related to the Iranian nuclear program through diplomatic solutions.

The main challenges currently lie in setting priorities and formulating understandings that can serve as a foundation for reaching a comprehensive agreement, His Excellency pointed out.

Returning to war would only lead to further destruction, he warned, stressing the importance of supporting all efforts aimed at preventing a recurrence of current tensions and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, describing this as a shared regional and international interest.

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs further noted that his recent visit to the United States focused primarily on supporting Pakistani diplomatic efforts and urging all parties to respond positively in order to reach a swift resolution to the crisis, underscoring that prolonging the war would not be in the interests of any side.

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss with US officials the repercussions of the continuing war on the region and the world, His Excellency said, praising Pakistan's great and significant role in reaching an agreement and reiterating Qatar's support for these efforts.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani stated that the consultations being conducted by the State of Qatar are taking place within the framework of full coordination with Pakistani mediation, especially since the Gulf states, including Qatar, are among the parties most directly affected by the consequences of the war.

For his part, HE the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the need to focus on diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the current crisis as quickly as possible, emphasizing that Turkiye does not support the continuation of the war.

Pakistan's role in reaching an agreement is important and decisive for the region and the world, His Excellency said, given that the war's consequences extend to energy security and global freedom of navigation.

Fidan also pointed to the ongoing Qatari-Turkish coordination to support Pakistani mediation and secure a ceasefire as soon as possible, as well as both countries' consultations on a host of regional issues at all institutional levels.

His Excellency also reiterated his rejection of the Strait of Hormuz being used as a pressure card against Gulf countries, especially since the strait is an international waterway that must be protected.

Any future threat to freedom of navigation should be met with a firm international stance, he added.

Regarding regional developments, HE the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Israel seeks to address crises through violence and expansion, a policy that is no longer merely a regional problem but one that has become an issue for global security.

His Excellency also noted the growing international criticism of Israeli occupation, including measures and sanctions taken by some European countries, predicting that global public opinion will witness tougher positions toward Israeli policies over the coming period. (QNA)
