Mathaf Marks 15 Years with Major Exhibition Exploring Arab Modern Art
Doha, April 30 (QNA) - Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art has launched a major exhibition titled Resolutions: Evolving Realities as part of its 15th anniversary program, reflecting on its origins while highlighting its future direction.
Opened on April 30 and running until August 22, 2026, the exhibition spans the museum's Atrium and Ground Floor Galleries and brings together key works from its early years alongside new artistic productions.
It also features the world premiere of a large-scale sculptural work by Iraqi artist Ismail Fattah, created during an artist residency that predated the museum's opening as a public institution in 2010.
The exhibition revisits works first shown following Mathaf's transformation from a private collection into a public museum, placing them in dialogue with contemporary perspectives and new commissions.
According to Mathaf director Zeina Arida, the show highlights the institution's early exhibition history and its commitment to intergenerational artistic dialogue.
Featuring works by 10 artists and collectives, including Farid Belkahia, Ghada Amer, Hassan Sharif, Ibrahim El Salahi, Raqs Media Collective, Akram Zaatari and Buthayna Ali, the exhibition explores social, cultural and political realities across the region.
It also coincides with the relaunch of the Mathaf Encyclopedia of Modern Art and the Arab World, expanding digital access to research and artist biographies.
The anniversary program is part of Qatar's wider cultural initiative Evolution Nation, which marks 50 years since the founding of the National Museum of Qatar and highlights the country's cultural development and future ambitions. (QNA)
