New York, April 7 (QNA) - Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani expressed his country's deep regret Tuesday over the UN Security Council's failure to adopt the draft resolution submitted by Bahrain on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Jordan regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

He emphasized that the Council failed to fulfill its responsibility regarding an illegal act that requires clarity and decisive action that cannot be delayed.

During the Security Council session, the Bahraini Foreign Minister warned that threats to freedom of navigation and regional security do not expire with time and cannot be treated as passing crises.

He affirmed that his country will continue to work in coordination with its partners and allies to ensure freedom of navigation, protect international maritime routes, and prevent the recurrence of such threats.

The Bahraini Foreign Minister added that the draft resolution submitted by his country on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Jordan represented a decisive and responsible response to address dangerous developments affecting one of the most vital waterways for international trade. He emphasized that Iran has no right to close this waterway to international navigation and deprive the world's people of essential resources, violating international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and ethical and humanitarian principles and values.

Al Zayani added that, in light of the current global instability, it is no longer possible to ignore that obstructing navigation in the Strait of Hormuz represents a systematic pattern of behavior based on using this vital waterway as a tool for political pressure and bargaining.

It is worth noting that the UN Security Council failed Tuesday to adopt a draft resolution on the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the UN News Centre, 11 members voted in favor of the draft resolution, while China and Russia vetoed it, and Pakistan and Colombia abstained. (QNA)
