New York, April 05 (QNA) - The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains extremely serious despite the ceasefire.
OCHA Spokesperson Olga Cherevko said in a statement that the escalating tensions in the Middle East have led to a decline in the international community's focus on the Gaza Strip, noting that this decline began even after the ceasefire agreement came into effect.
Cherevko affirmed that living conditions in the strip are extremely difficult as the majority of Gaza's residents have been displaced from their homes, and thousands continue to live in displacement camps and among the rubble as the bombing continues.
She added that despite the efforts, only about 42% of health facilities are functioning, and most of them are only partially operational, and that the World Health Organization (WHO) is working to facilitate medical evacuations.
She pointed out that Israeli restrictions also prevent international humanitarian workers from entering Gaza, warning that any further disruption to humanitarian operations could have devastating consequences for the Palestinian population.
In addition to the daily bloody bombardment, the Israeli entity is preventing the entry of agreed-upon quantities of food, medicine, medical supplies and shelter materials into Gaza, where some 2.4 million Palestinians, including 1.5 million displaced people, are living in catastrophic conditions.
