AFC Challenge League: Kuwait SC Defeat Kyrgyz Republic's Muras United
Bishkek, April 22 (QNA) - Kuwait SC fought back from a goal down to win 2-1 against Kyrgyz Republic's FC Muras United in Bishkek on Wednesday and book their place in the AFC Challenge League 2025/26 final against Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC from Cambodia.
Amir Zhaparov gave the home side a 36th-minute lead with a curling free-kick but goals either side of halftime by Mohamed Marhoon and Mehdi Barrahma earned Kuwait SC a ticket for next month's decider, the AFC website reported.
Amro Abdelfatah was the difference between the teams, and it was the playmaker's centre from the right in the seventh minute that gave Kuwait SC an early sight of goal with Barrahma glancing his header across the face of the Muras United goal from six yards out.
Abdelfatah was off target again in the 26th minute while Nursultan Toktonaliev had the hosts' first attempt three minutes later, the forward pulling his shot wide of Khaled Al Rashidi's left post.
Muras United had spent much of the first half on the back foot but, in the 36th minute, the Kyrgyz side took the lead.
Zhaparov was hauled down 25 yards from goal by Ali Dara and the Muras United playmaker dusted himself off to bend his right-foot free-kick up and over the defensive wall before beating Al Rashidi's desperate dive to his right.
Al Rashidi pulled off a fine save with a minute remaining in the half to deny Zhaparov while moments later Mohammad Daham skied over the Muras United crossbar after Orest Kostyk had parried Abdelfatah's initial shot. Muras' Toktonaliev then scuffed his opportunity wide.
Three minutes into stoppage time Kuwait SC levelled the scores, Marhoon emerging unmarked on the right to volley Abdelfatah's searching cross from the right through Kostyk's legs from seven yards out.
It only took another three minutes after the restart for Kuwait SC to claim the lead, Barrahma the quickest to react and side-foot Abdelfatah's corner past the Muras United goalkeeper.
Abdelfatah was denied a spectacular individual effort on the hour mark when he slalomed his way through the Muras United defence only to see his shot come back off the post with Kostyk well beaten.
Kuwait SC held on to deny Muras United an equaliser as time ticked down and Nebojsa Jovovic's team will face Svay Rieng in the final on May 13. (QNA)
