Amman, April 21 (QNA) - Jordan has signed the final technical and legal agreement for its national water carrier project, paving the way for financial close in July and construction to begin this summer.

The project, valued at around $5.8 billion, aims to desalinate and transport 300 million cubic meters of water annually from the Gulf of Aqaba to regions across the country.

Officials said the scheme will be delivered under a build-operate-transfer model, with full ownership returning to the government after 26 years.

The initiative will be funded through a mix of international donors, private sector investment, and government contributions, and is seen as a key step in addressing Jordan's long-term water shortages.

Authorities added that the project will rely on renewable energy as part of national targets to expand clean power generation. (QNA)
