At Least One Killed as 7.4-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesia’s Ternate Island
Jakarta, April 02 (QNA) - A magnitude 7.4 earthquake has hit the Northern Molucca Sea off the coast of Ternate island, Indonesia, killing at least one person after a building collapsed, Indonesian media reported.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake was about 127 kilometers west of Ternate at a shallow depth of 35 kilometers.
Indonesian authorities issued a tsunami warning for islands surrounding the Molucca Sea.
Indonesia lies within an active tectonic zone known as the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” which experiences intense seismic and volcanic activity. (QNA)
