Various Arab Capitals, April 17 (QNA) - US President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire in Lebanon was widely welcomed across the Arab world, with several countries and regional bodies emphasizing its importance and the need for full adherence and implementation.

Arab states also reaffirmed their full support for Lebanon and their solidarity with it.

In this context, Saudi Arabia welcomed President Trump's ceasefire announcement. In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the significant positive role played by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri. It reiterated Saudi Arabia’s support for Lebanon in restoring sovereignty, ensuring that weapons are exclusively in the hands of the state and its legitimate institutions, and backing reform measures and efforts to preserve Lebanon’s resources and territorial integrity.

Egypt also welcomed the announcement of a 10-day ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, describing it as an important step toward de-escalation and halting Israeli attacks on the country. In a statement, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the need for Israel to cease all military actions against Lebanon and reaffirmed Egypt’s firm support for Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as the empowerment of its national institutions.

The ministry also reiterated the need for the full and immediate withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 without selectivity, calling on the international community to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire, alleviate civilian suffering, guarantee the safe delivery of humanitarian aid, and enable displaced people to return to their homes.

Jordan also welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, praising the positive role played by President Joseph Aoun, the Lebanese government led by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Speaker Nabih Berri. In a statement, Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed its support for Lebanon in asserting full sovereignty over its territory, ensuring state control over weapons, reactivating national institutions, and safeguarding the country’s unity and resources.

Oman likewise welcomed President Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel. In a statement, Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation for the efforts made by the United States to reach this understanding, stressing the importance of all parties adhering to it and avoiding any actions that could undermine it.

The United Arab Emirates also welcomed the ceasefire agreement, commending the diplomatic efforts led by President Trump. In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that the development would serve as a positive step toward strengthening regional stability, emphasizing the importance of continued international coordination to prevent further escalation and mitigate humanitarian and security repercussions. The UAE reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Lebanese government and its commitment to supporting Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

For its part, the Arab League described the ceasefire announcement as a positive development, particularly in terms of alleviating the suffering of the Lebanese people. In a statement, Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit stressed the importance of all parties adhering to the ceasefire and called for using this opportunity as a foundation for serious negotiations leading to a lasting truce, while also expressing appreciation for the diplomatic efforts made by several Arab countries.

The Arab Parliament also welcomed the ceasefire agreement, considering it a positive step toward calming the situation and ending the suffering of the Lebanese people resulting from recent Israeli attacks. In a statement, it emphasized that the success of the agreement depends on full compliance with the ceasefire and the cessation of all hostilities by Israel, ensuring civilian protection and safeguarding Lebanon’s security and stability, while reaffirming its support for Lebanon’s unity and sovereignty over its entire territory.
