Qatar Participates in IPU Assembly in Istanbul Focused on Peace, AI and Parliamentary Reform
Istanbul, April 17 (QNA) - The 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has continued in its second day in Istanbul, with participation from the State of Qatar's Shura Council.
The Qatari delegation, led by HE the Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, joined parliamentary leaders from around the world in discussions centered on "Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations".
Committee meetings addressed a range of issues, including social development and disability rights, the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary work, and mechanisms for post-conflict peace-building.
Within the Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, HE Dr Sultan bin Hassan Al Dabit Al Dosari joined lawmakers in discussing a draft resolution on inclusive social development and strategies to empower persons with disabilities, alongside proposals to modernize parliamentary work through AI tools.
In parallel sessions, HE Ahmed bin Hitmi Al Hitmi joined members of the Committee on Peace and International Security in the review of proposals on building effective mechanisms for post-conflict reconstruction and achieving sustainable peace.
HE Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Maliki participated in the meetings of the Committee on United Nations Affairs to examine the role of parliaments in strengthening United Nations field engagement.
The Shura Council also participated in meetings of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments, where officials discussed strengthening parliamentary administrations, enhancing cooperation, and sharing best practices.
The discussions form part of broader efforts within the IPU to modernize parliamentary institutions and strengthen their role in addressing global political and social challenges. (QNA)
