Istanbul, April 15 (QNA) - HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim affirmed the State of Qatar's commitment to continue its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and strengthening its political and humanitarian efforts to support the Palestinian people, in accordance with the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. His Excellency stressed the importance of activating joint parliamentary action and unifying positions in order to contribute to defending legitimate rights, in light of the rapid developments taking place in the Palestinian territories.

This came during His Excellency's speech in the Meeting of the Group of Parliaments Supporting Palestine, which was held within the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled to kick off on Wednesday evening in Istanbul, Turkiye.

At the beginning of his speech, His Excellency noted the importance of the meeting, considering that it reflects a growing awareness of the role of joint parliamentary action, indicating that the forming of this group represents a significant step that requires a genuine assessment of its course of action since its establishment, and the extent of its ability to unify positions and influence international forums.

HE Speaker of Shura Council highlighted the dangerous developments in the Palestinian territories, pointing out the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque for a long period of time and the prevention of worshippers from entering it, in a clear violation of freedom of worship. He also pointed out the Knesset's approval of the law to execute Palestinian detainees, which constitutes a clear violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions, and the widespread international rejection that this provoked.

He also addressed the issue of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, stressing that the situation remains questionable given the continued failure to commit to halting military operations or allowing the entry of humanitarian aid, which raises questions about the feasibility of moving to its subsequent stages without fulfilling previous commitments.

HE Speaker of Shura Council called for moving from the framework of statements to coordinated and effective action, by activating parliamentary tools and promoting presence in international forums, in order to ensure the defense of the rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with the rules of international law, stressing - in this context, that the State of Qatar continues its political and humanitarian efforts in support of the Palestinian cause.

His Excellency concluded his speech by indicating that the Shura Council continues to contribute to this path through its parliamentary participation and positions, expressing his hope that this meeting will contribute to enhancing the Group's effectiveness by developing a political and media action plan that keeps pace with the scale of the challenges and reflects the shared responsibility.
