Capitals, April 01 (QNA) - The Turkish national team officially qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday after defeating Kosovo 1-0 in the European play-off final (Path C).
Turkiye secured victory thanks to Kerem Akturkoglu, who scored the match's only goal in the 54th minute, sending his country to its second World Cup appearance after the 2002 edition in South Korea and Japan.
Turkiye will compete in Group D alongside hosts the United States, Paraguay, and Australia.
The 2026 World Cup will be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, kicking off on June 11 at Mexico City Stadium and concluding on July 19 at New Jersey Stadium.
Sweden also qualified for the finals after beating Poland 3-2 in the European play-off final (Path B).
Sweden's goals were scored by Anthony Elanga (19th minute), Gustaf Lagerbielke (44th), and Viktor Gyokeres (88th), while Poland's goals came from Nicola Zalewski (33rd) and Karol Swiderski (55th).
Sweden will play in Group F alongside the Netherlands, Japan, and Tunisia. (QNA)
