Permanent Representative to UN Participates in OIC Ambassadors' Emergency Meeting
New York, March 06 (QNA) - HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, Sheikh Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani participated in the emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Group at the ambassadorial level, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, to discuss the ongoing Iranian attacks targeting the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, in addition to other countries.
addressing the meeting, Her Excellency stated that the territory of the State of Qatar had been subjected to a series of attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran, noting that Qatari air defenses, the Qatar Emiri Air Force, and the naval forces were able to intercept these attacks.
She explained that the attacks resulted in a number of injuries and caused damage to public and private property, adding that they targeted civilian facilities, including a water tank at a power station, vital facilities for liquefied natural gas production, and areas surrounding Hamad International Airport.
Her Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar strongly condemns these attacks, describing them as a flagrant violation of its national sovereignty and a direct assault on its security and territorial integrity, as well as an unacceptable escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region.
She also conveyed Qatar's condemnation of violations affecting the sovereignty of a number of sisterly countries, affirming its full solidarity with those states in all measures they take to safeguard their sovereignty, security, and stability.
Her Excellency noted that the State of Qatar has kept the UN Security Council informed of these developments, sending four letters so far to convey updated facts and emphasize the civilian nature of the targeted sites, while strongly condemning the attacks and affirming Qatar's full right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.
HE the Permanent Representative added that GCC states, despite their diplomatic efforts to avoid escalation and their clear assurances that their territories would not be used to launch attacks against Iran, have continued to be targeted by Iran, in a clear violation of Paragraph 4 of Article 2 of the UN Charter.
She voiced the State of Qatar's appreciation for the positions expressed by many member states in solidarity with Qatar and the GCC countries and their condemnation of the illegal Iranian attacks, calling on the OIC Group to stand united in issuing a clear condemnation of these illegal and unjustified attacks targeting the State of Qatar, the GCC countries, and other Arab states.
