Kosovo President Dissolves Parliament, Calls for Early Elections
Pristina, March 06 (QNA) - Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani on Friday dissolved parliament and called for early elections after lawmakers failed to elect a new head of state within the constitutional deadline.
The 120-seat parliament was required to elect a president by midnight Thursday, but the ruling Vetevendosje party, led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, failed to secure the quorum or enough opposition support for its candidate, Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca.
Osmani said the failed vote was deliberate and carefully planned, stressing that dissolving parliament was necessary to preserve the constitutional process and allow voters to choose new leadership.
The vote collapsed after only 65 lawmakers attended the session, short of the required quorum, deepening a political deadlock, the third such crisis in less than a year. (QNA)
