Doha, March 30 (QNA) - HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, the Chairman of the Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of Food Security Policies, affirmed that the food security situation in the State of Qatar is excellent and stable, thanks to a clear vision prepared in advance that takes into account various possible scenarios, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
In an interview with Qatar TV aired Monday evening, His Excellency said that thanks to the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and the follow-up of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Qatar asserts its constant readiness to protect its community and ensure that performance continues across all sectors.
HE the Minister of Municipality pointed out that today's achievements are the result of continuous work and a proactive National Food Security Strategy (2024–2030), which has contributed to building an integrated and flexible system capable of adapting to various challenges.
He stated that the strategy is based on three main pillars: the first is enhancing local production, where the country has succeeded in achieving 100 percent self-sufficiency in vegetables during their seasons and approximately 99 percent in dairy products, with a surplus in some products being exported abroad.
His Excellency added that the second pillar focuses on managing the strategic stockpile in cooperation with relevant entities, through precise systems that include early warning mechanisms to detect any potential shortages and highlighted that this stockpile has not been used so far; instead, efforts are ongoing to strengthen it through additional shipments of essential goods such as wheat and rice.
HE the Minister of Municipality noted that the third pillar centers on diversifying import sources and strengthening foreign investments in the food sector, ensuring high flexibility in securing supplies when needed.
In a related context, he highlighted that he conducted inspection tours covering farms and food companies to ensure market stability and the availability of production inputs, in addition to visiting the Abu Samra Border Crossing, where he praised the efforts of the General Authority of Customs and relevant entities in facilitating procedures and ensuring the smooth flow of shipments.
HE Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah also commended the private sector's significant role, especially food companies, poultry producers, and local farms, in supporting market stability and meeting its needs, particularly during the early stages of challenges.
His Excellency stated that the Ministry of Municipality activated emergency and business continuity plans and continued providing its essential services with high efficiency around the clock, including public cleaning services and health and food inspections, alongside ongoing field teams carrying out regulatory and inspection tasks across all municipalities.
On the digital transformation front, His Excellency added that the Ministry provides more than 250 electronic services through its official website and "Oun app", enabling the public to complete their transactions easily without the need for in-person visits.
HE the Minister of Municipality revealed that the Ministry has recently received more than 77,000 electronic requests, in addition to 23,000 calls through the call center, along with hundreds of requests related to licensing services. He stressed that these figures reflect the efficiency of the digital system and its ability to operate without disruption.
