Jakarta, March 31 (QNA) - Indonesia condemned in the strongest terms the second consecutive incident near Bani Haiyyan, southern Lebanon, on Monday, affecting Indonesian peacekeepers serving under UNIFIL, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuries to two others.
The recurrence of such heinous attacks against Indonesian peacekeepers within a short span of time is utterly unacceptable, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on X.
"This cannot be treated as an isolated occurrence, but reflects a rapidly deteriorating security environment in southern Lebanon, where ongoing Israeli military operations have placed United Nations peacekeepers at grave risk," the statement said.
"Indonesia continues to strongly condemn Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon, which have significantly increased the risks faced by UN peacekeepers and undermined the implementation of UNIFIL's mandate under Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006)," it added.
The ministry also emphasised that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers is non-negotiable, and that any harm against them constitutes a serious violation of international law and must not go unanswered.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to establish the facts, including the circumstances and those responsible, and stressed that full accountability must follow. (QNA)
