Qatar Stresses Iran's Renewed Targeting of Its Territory Threatens Principles of Good Neighborliness
Vienna, March 02 (QNA) - The State of Qatar stressed that the targeting of its territory again by the Islamic Republic of Iran threatens the principles of good neighborliness and the understandings upon which relations between the two countries are based, in addition to violating the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
Qatar also reiterated its strong condemnation of this targeting of its territory and a number of fraternal countries, affirming that it is a blatant violation of its sovereignty and a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region.
This came in a statement by the State of Qatar, delivered by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of Austria and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Vienna Jassim Yaqoub Al Hammadi, during the extraordinary session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency held in Vienna regarding the Iranian attacks that targeted the State of Qatar and a number of countries in the region.
Based on its firm approach of calling for the peaceful settlement of disputes and was, Qatar has been and is still among the first to call for dialogue with the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding its nuclear file, as it is the best basis for ensuring the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program, he added.
His Excellency said that instead of appreciating the efforts of the State of Qatar to seek an immediate cessation of hostilities, the Islamic Republic of Iran targeted Qatar's territory and a number of fraternal countries, in a dangerous escalation that threatens the security and stability of the region.
His Excellency stressed that the Iranian attack on Qatar's territory for the second time is a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty, which cannot be accepted under any justification or pretext, especially since Qatar has always chosen peace, dialogue, and the approach of mediation.
His Excellency also affirmed that the State of Qatar reserves its full right to respond to this targeting in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, in defense of its sovereignty and in order to preserve its security and national interests.
His Excellency reiterated the State of Qatar's full solidarity with the fraternal Arab countries in all the measures they may take to preserve their sovereignty, security, and stability. (QNA)
