Gaza Health Ministry Warns Hospitals Could Face Shutdown Amid Generator Lubricant Shortages
Gaza, March 29 (QNA) - There is an impending risk of disrupting the operation of hospitals amid the aggravation of the crisis of lubricants and essential spare parts to operate electrical generators, which could render them entirely at a standstill any time soon, the Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip warned Saturday.
It reported that 90 generators went out of service almost entirely, while 38 generators operate with limited quantities of lubricants, alongside 11 generators that require urgent repair.
The Ministry cautioned that hospitals in the enclave are in sore need of these generators due to power outages, confirming that if these generators stop functioning, critical sections would be affected, foremost of which are extensive care units and kidney dialysis, posing a threat to patients' lives and compounding the menace of the health situation inside medical facilities.
Power outages would inevitably lead to sensitive medicines, vaccines, and blood units being damaged, along with the disruption of precision medical equipment due to fluctuations in the power grid and dependence on unstable power sources, the Ministry cautioned.
The Ministry further noted that surgical operations are no longer limited to emergency cases amid the remarkable decline in hospitals' operational capacity, a problem that ominously aggravates the plight of patients and delays essential medical services.
It stressed that the perpetuation of this crisis would degenerate the humanitarian situation and disrupt health services afforded to hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
The Ministry appealed to humanitarian, health, and human rights organizations to spring into action to confront this crisis before it reaches the stage of complete standstill. (QNA)
