Al Arabi Clinch Qatar Handball League Title, Al Duhail Finish Runners-Up
Doha, March 29 (QNA) - Al Arabi sealed the Qatar Men's Handball League title after a 27-27 draw with Al Duhail in the season finale at Al Duhail Sports Hall on Sunday.
Al Arabi finished top of the standings with 51 points, ahead of Al Duhail in second place on 47 points, while Al Rayyan came third with 42 points.
The title marks Al Arabi's second consecutive triumph and the fourth in the club's history, having previously won the league in the 1982-1983 and 2019-2020 seasons.
President of the Qatar Handball Association (QHA) Ahmed Mohammed Al Shaabi and HE President of Al Arabi Sports Club Sheikh Tamim bin Fahd Al-Thani presented the league shield and gold medals to Al Arabi captain Anis Al Zawawi. QHA Secretary-General Mohammed Jaber Al Mulla awarded the silver medals to Al Duhail and the bronze medals to Al Rayyan.
In the final standings, Al Sadd finished fourth with 37 points, followed by Al Ahli in fifth with 35 points and Al Wakrah in sixth with 34 points. Al Gharafa placed seventh with 31 points, ahead of Al Khor in eighth with 30 points, Qatar SC in ninth with 28 points, and Al Shamal in tenth with 25 points.
Al Shaabi congratulated Al Arabi on winning the title following what he described as a distinguished campaign, noting that the team's consistent performances throughout the season earned them the championship. He also praised Al Duhail and Al Rayyan for finishing second and third, respectively.
He expressed hope that the upcoming Qatar Cup and Amir Cup competitions would witness strong competition and wished all teams success.
For his part, HE Sheikh Tamim bin Fahd Al-Thani commended the team's achievement, highlighting the collective efforts of the players, technical staff and management in securing the club's fourth league title.
Captain Anis Al Zawawi expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the league title, coupled with their earlier Federation Cup triumph, would serve as strong motivation heading into the Qatar Cup and Amir Cup.
Teammate Youssef Ben Ali also highlighted the team's determination to build on their success, expressing optimism about achieving further accomplishments in upcoming competitions.
Al Rayyan remain the most successful club in the competition's history with 15 titles, followed by Al Sadd with nine and Al Duhail with five. Al Arabi's latest triumph takes their tally to four titles, level with Al Ahli and Al Jaish, while Qatar SC have won the league twice. Al Gharafa and Al Wakrah have each claimed one title. (QNA)
