Al Wakrah Sports Club Signs Chilean Coach Jose Luis Sierra
Doha, March 27 (QNA) - Al Wakrah Sports Club officially announced today the signing of Chilean coach Jose Luis Sierra to lead the first team, succeeding Spaniard Vicente Moreno, who departed to coach Al Rayyan.
In a statement, Al Wakrah said that Sierra signed a contract with the club to lead the first team for the upcoming period, without specifying the contract's duration.
The 57-year-old Sierra began his coaching career in 2010 when he managed Chilean side Union Espanola until 2015, followed by a one-season stint with another Chilean Colo-Colo club.
The Chilean coach then embarked on his first experience in the Gulf region, taking charge of Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad for two seasons from 2016 to 2018, winning both the Crown Prince Cup and the King's Cup.
Sierra then left to coach Shabab Al Ahli of the UAE for a season, before returning to Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia for another season. He was subsequently appointed manager of Chilean side Palestino for the 2020-2021 season.
In his last coaching stint before joining Al Wakrah, Sierra managed Al Tai of Saudi Arabia for the 2021-2022 season, before taking charge of fellow Saudi club Al Wehda from 2022 to 2025.
Al Wakrah currently sits eighth on the Doha Bank Stars League table with 23 points from 19 matches this season. (QNA)
