Kuwait Expresses Gulf Nations' Welcome of UNHRC Resolution Condemning Iranian Aggression
Geneva, March 25 (QNA) - Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Naser Abdullah Al Hayyen, emphasized that the Gulf Group's welcome of the Human Rights Council's (UNHRC) adoption, on Wednesday, by consensus, of a draft resolution condemning the Iranian attacks that targeted countries in the region.
This came in his speech delivered on behalf of the Gulf Group before the UNHRC following the adoption of the resolution on the human rights implications of the attacks waged by Iran against a number of countries in the region.
Al Hayyen asserted that this adoption underscores the spirit of cooperation that characterizes this Council when dealing with issues that entail direct and serious implications for human rights.
The consensus-based adoption suggests a shared awareness of the importance of addressing the consequences of these attacks, particularly those related to the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and ensuring respect for relevant international obligations, Al Hayyen underlined.
Al Hayyen further indicated that the resolution is meant to deplore the Iranian aggression against the GCC states and Jordan, as well as the ensuing grave impacts on individuals' enjoyment of their fundamental rights.
He also reaffirmed the importance of the Council's persistent engagement in following up on this issue within its mandate, recalling that the Arab Gulf nations highly recognize and appreciate the move initiated by more than 100 countries that co-sponsored the draft resolution.
Al Hayyen explained that this assiduous move suggests the breadth of international support and the wide-ranging sponsorship the resolution received.
He pointed out that the Gulf nations look forward to building on this consensus and to persistently working with all delegations to bolster the Council's role in addressing human rights-related issues in a spirit of shared responsibility and constructive cooperation. (QNA)
