Arab League: Israeli Attacks Aim to Fragment Lebanon, Displace Population
Cairo, March 23 (QNA) - The Arab League has vigorously deplored the Israeli unrelenting attacks on Lebanon and the intent to target its infrastructure and bridges, considering these acts as a flagrant and unequivocal violation of Lebanon's sovereignty, security, and stability, as well as international law.
Israel's intent has been exposed in its pursuit to construct a buffer zone in southern Lebanon, alongside its methodical policies to fragment the Lebanese map and displace the Lebanese people, said Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit in a statement on Monday.
Aboul Gheit stressed that the UN Security Council (UNSC) should face up to its responsibility to immediately put these attacks to a close and compel Israel to respect international law and the relevant UNSC resolutions, including the full implementation of Resolution 1701.
In addition, Aboul Gheit expressed his concern over the heightened tensions in Lebanon due to the Israeli aggression. He reemphasized the Arab League's support for all efforts Lebanon undertakes in pursuit of maintaining civil peace and dealing with the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in Lebanon.
He noted the perilous consequences of this crisis in terms of dangerous social impact, stressing that this should be dealt with through the Arab Ministers of Health Council and the Arab Ministers of Social Affairs Council. (QNA)
