Beijing, March 02 (QNA) - China and France have stressed the need to work towards promoting de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East and jointly upholding the basic norms of international relations.

This came in a phone call on Monday between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, where they discussed the current situation in the region.

Wang urged France to uphold an objective and fair position and maintain a calm and rational approach on the current situation.

For his part, the French Foreign Minister stressed that France and China, both permanent members of the UN Security Council, bear special responsibilities for maintaining international peace and security. (QNA)
