New York, March 18 (QNA) - The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the continuing escalation between Lebanon and Israel.

Speaking in New York, UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq said the organization was urging all sides to de-escalate and make use of diplomatic channels, while recommitting to the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon reported heavy exchanges of fire, alongside intensified air and ground operations and an increased Israeli military presence in Lebanese territory.

Earlier, Lebanon's health ministry said the death toll from Israeli operations had risen to 968, with 2,432 people injured since the start of the escalation.

The UN reiterated its call for restraint, warning that further escalation could have serious consequences for regional stability. (QNA)
