Lebanese Prime Minister Says No Retreat on Restoring Decision of War and Peace
Beirut, March 12 (QNA) - Prime Minister of Lebanon Nawaf Salam affirmed that there would be no retreat from the government's position on restoring the decision of war and peace, noting that what he described as a new adventure had brought Lebanon nothing but more victims, destruction, and displacement.
In a statement issued by the Lebanese government on Thursday, Salam said that Beirut and its southern suburb, in addition to the south and the Bekaa Valley, were under continuous bombardment.
He added that more than ten days had passed since the outbreak of the war, which he said the government had long warned against dragging Lebanon into and had sought by all means to avoid.
The Lebanese Prime Minister added that the country had not wanted the war and that the government had worked to stop it. He stressed that Lebanon could not accept under any circumstances becoming once again an open arena for the wars of others.
In this regard, he noted that the Lebanese President had launched an initiative for negotiations aimed at rescuing Lebanon from the depth of the crisis it had been plunged into.
Salam explained that all Lebanese were looking forward to the army fully carrying out its role in extending the authority of the state over the entire national territory.
He also warned against the circulation of false news, rumors, and misleading statements across media outlets and social media platforms.
He stressed that the stage Lebanon was currently going through was a critical one that required vigilance and wisdom from everyone in expressing their positions in a way that would protect the country from the dangers of destructive division.
Salam also pointed out that the government had worked to secure shelters in all regions and prepare them for hundreds of thousands of Lebanese in the south, the Bekaa, and the southern suburb, who had been forced to leave their homes in search of safety. (QNA)
