NHRC Condemns Iranian Attacks, Says its Documenting Violations
Doha, February 28 (QNA) - The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) condemned the Iranian military attacks that targeted the State of Qatar today, stressing that these attacks constitute a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, a blatant challenge to the rules of public international law, and a breach of the principles of respect for state sovereignty.
In a press statement, the Committee expressed its condemnation of Iranian aggression targeting the country’s territory and the resulting repercussions affecting civilians, causing fear and threatening their safety as well as the safety of civilian facilities and infrastructure, due to the fall of missiles or shrapnel in residential areas.
It pointed out that these attacks represent a clear violation of international human rights law, foremost among them the right to life, the right to psychological and physical integrity, the right to freedom of movement, personal security, and other rights that were endangered as a result of the Iranian military attacks.
The National Human Rights Committee commended the swift response and immediate measures taken by the Ministry of Interior and other competent authorities, which contributed to safeguarding the lives of citizens, residents, and visitors and ensuring their safety. It called on citizens, residents, and visitors to adhere to the instructions issued by the relevant authorities in order to strengthen measures protecting the right to life and the right to health.
The Committee said that it will keep this matter under review, and will continue to monitor and document the effects and violations resulting from these attacks, in preparation for issuing a detailed and comprehensive report.
It reaffirmed its firm commitment to continuing its work to promote and protect human rights and to safeguard the dignity of citizens, residents, and visitors in the State of Qatar, stressing the need to activate international accountability mechanisms to ensure justice and end impunity. (QNA)
